Cloisters of Europe

In my opinion, the concept of the cloister is one of the best ideas for sacred spaces mankind has come up with yet. We need to keep a cloister alive in our souls, a sacred, quiet green spaces for prayer and contemplation. The following images are my favorite from the book Cloisters of Europe, photographs by Daniel Faure, and text by Véronique Rouchon Mouilleron. Viking Studio, 2001.
Fountain, Valmagne, France. This might be my favorite medieval structure of all.
Cathedral Cloister, Porto, Portugal
Gloucester, England
La Oliva, Spain
Details on Capitals, Santo Domingo de Silos, Spain. What glorious textures!
Vault, Norwich, England
