Translating the Sagas
Brepols Publishers' "Making the Middle Ages" series recently published John Kennedy's Translating the Sagas. Two Hundred Years of Challenge and Response. Saga translations have played a major role in shaping attitudes towards Viking-age Scandinavia in Britain, the British Commonwealth, and the United States. This is the first examination in a socio-historical framework of the development of Icelandic saga translation into English from the late 18th century to the present day.
