The Royal Wawel Castle, in Krakow, Poland, has announced a competition for writers and artists to create a comic book inspired by the victory of Polish and Lithuanian troops over the Teutonic Order on July 15, 1410.
It is open to young people in the 16-26 age bracket and is part of a large-scale educational project on the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, which was one of the largest battles in medieval Europe and one of the most glorious and significant military victories in Polish history.
The reason why the competition is organized by the Wawel Castle is that it was from there that Polish troops under the command of King Wladys?aw Jagie??o began their two-month long march to the battle site in northern Poland. It was also to Kraków that the King made a triumphant return from the battle.
Earlier this year, the Wawel Castle announced a competition for an orchestral piece to be performed during the anniversary celebrations on July 15, 2010.
