LTPSC Book of Hours: Mary's Divine Coronation, Betrayal of Judas, Holy Ghost Descends. Plus a small smattering of strawberries.

Mary's coronation by Father in Heaven, attended by angels.
Mmm, that red, pendulous fold of fabric hanging from the throne are bed curtains. I'm always curious about why these have such prominent position in so many northern works (The Arnolfini Wedding, anyone?). I mean, why even show this in this scene? Why does the throne have a curtain - maybe represents the veil between heaven and earth?
A yummy detail. The word for strawberries comes from 'strew-berries,' because of the way they grow. Just because you've always wondered if the berries ever had anything to do with straw.
 Jesus Betrayal, Judas' kiss.
I appreciate the movement and the colors here. Christ is gray like the soldiers behind him; he would blend into the background if it weren't for the halo and gold highlights.
 Oh, the drama.
The Holy Ghost descends in the form of a dove. Beautiful.

- Medieval Polychromy
I can't resist posting these images of the fifteenth century arch braced ceiling at Holy Trinity in Blythburgh in Suffolk.   The whole surface of the ceiling is covered in delicate polychromy, with stencilled monograms and stylised...

- Rycote Chapel, Oxfordshire
I may have drawn your attention to the excellent photography of my friend Martin Beek in some earlier posts, but can I mention his name again.  As well as an being an excellent and photographer with a great eye for detail,...
