PREMI, the Pre-Modern Institute (formerly MEMI) is pleased to announce the first annual Virtual Symposium on Pre-Modern Studies, ?Catastrophe, Calamity and Chaos in the Pre-Modern World.?
This interdisciplinary conference will feature presentations on topics ranging from the Plague of Justinian to the eruption of Huanynaputina, addressing cultural artifacts from the Chimalpahin codex to the York Judgement Play.The entire first session is devoted to the Early Middle Ages.
Co-sponsored by the University of Alberta and Athabasca University, the symposium will take place on February 9, 2013, between 9:30 and 11:30 AM MST.
Presentations will be available in advance on the Symposium website. The symposium time will be devoted to discussion of the previously-available presentations.

Anyone in the Edmonton area is welcome to join in person, on the University of Alberta campus, in Tory 2-58.
Refreshments/breakfast will be provided to in-person attendees, so please arrive at Tory 2-58 closer to 9 AM!
